... And just like that, the mic turned back on.
Patience, baby.
My last podcast upload was October 2024 and I’m f**king sick about that. I moved from a platform I loved to a contract that hasn’t done as much as I thought it would for me and I’m mad about that, too. Spotify, the rrrrrraggedy house that A3Day was built heavily upon? Questionable ownership and exploitative. Podcasting aside, I haven’t earned a dime as a music producer from Spotify in almost seven years and I’ve been producing for over a decade.
My onus was to be “Your favorite foreign Korean music historian” and that doesn’t have to include the expected outlets. I value distribution but not at the cost of production delays, implied standards, missed marketing and advertising opportunities despite contractual promises, and funding instruments of war. The only thing that Spotify’s made easy for me is curating playlists for each A3Day season — outside of Naver it’s the most accessible music for less popular groups.
I’ve made my announcement on Patreon and I feel like soooooo much weight’s been lifted off of me. There’s always a story and I’ll share it later. For now, go to Patreon. Read it now!
