The Well’s Not Dry, Just Sh*tty

Allow me to preface this by saying this is not some clean cut train of thought. I am rambling while walking my dogs after a long day at work, but I need to get it off my chest.

What the hellllllll is going on in South Korea?

July 2025, I wrote about the end of Kpop/K-pop as we once knew it. We’re five months shy of that post’s first anniversary and it feels more real than ever.

Over the past few weeks, a former president of theirs is going to prison (again), a feud with another Asian nation had amplified the racism of SoKo to the point where there’s a petition to make immigration opportunities, legally, more difficult for that sector of people… adjacent media project KATSEYE might be down one member because of prejudices, trailblazing unit XG will catch a stray from XGALX leadership’s narcotics charges…

Nothing is perfect nor remains the same but it’s a special kind of torture to experience various facets of a hobby and a place that I deeply enjoy, work so hard to be like the place I am “trapped”within the currently.

It’s always existed but it’s amplified now and it’s notttt giving what they think it’s giving. It’s giving destitute morality. It’s giving Eww de U.S.

I need a space beyond reading books and my memories to enjoy. So much of what we/I consume is paper-trailed straight to some horrible shit and I’m exhausted. I can’t suspend my knowledge of reality to blindly conSUME ANYTHING. AAAAAHHHHH!!!!! WE ARE SCREAMING YET WE HAVE NO MOUTHS!!!!!

The well of entertainment is running dry, SoKo included. Its inspiration’s almost depleted. Its motivations, albeit the same as it’s always been (money), are all consuming and compromises genuine creativity. It’s hard to appreciate K-pop when I have to dig into the crates of the past to enjoy it.

It’s more than disappointing for me. It’s a major loss. We really had some magic in past eras. I dunno what some of this is now.
